Concept art for the Eleventh Fleet - Mitt'raw'nuruodo.
Hands got to the rendering of Mitt'raw'nuruodo's sketches. It was unusual to draw him without the Grand Admiral’s signature hairstyle, but I really wanted to make a strong contrast between his life “before” and “after” starting his service in the navy. Life on his home planet certainly wasn't easy.
+ some parallel with Ezra and his fate.
…And I still think the idea of making Thrawn's kintsugi-style form during his exile is my best idea :3 After red eyeliner on Karyn's eyes, of course.

Reasons why it’s probably for the best that Eli Vanto doesn’t show up in Tales of the Empire
There is an 95% chance he will be whitewashed if he shows up especially since Lucasfilm animation has a terrible track record of animating non-white features (if you don’t believe me look up Unwhitewash the Bad Batch)
Thranto is never going to happen in canon even if he does show up so it’s just one less thing for stans to be bitter about
The animated short he is most likely to appear in seems like it’s Morgan Elsbeth centric which means AT BEST he would get a 10 second cameo with no explanation of who he is anyway
Tales of the Empire is likely going to tie directly into Ahsoka (particularly with the aforementioned Morgan Elsbeth episode) and is that really a storyline we want Eli in?

I can't believe they cut out the "It's pronounced Mitth'raw'nuruodo" exchange in the Alliances comic.

i had a vague idea last night on chiss space-traveling system. it's really just an idea and maybe it breaks the existing lore so. if there's any chiss expert here PLEASE tell me if it's something that could exist because i wanna know if i can put it to use in my story
i know they use force sensitives with that third sight power, but like. idk. i understand that they are trained and sometimes they fail but like that's SO complex. you're traveling faster than light - you can have jedi like reflexes and shit but that's still hard af.
so i was imagining (because lately I've been trying to better understand chiss lore, which i LOVEEE) wouldn't it be easier if there were like some stations in between planets, especially important colonies, to allow the force sensitives to have to navigate between smaller points, and not completely in the dark?
idk if any of you know sky: children of the light's trial of fire, so here's the link (skip the intro part). now imagine that instead of the checkpoints with rocks and candles you have little artifical moons/planets/asteroids (depending on how important that station is), and force sensitives are supposed to reach that and then re orientate etc.
BUT to make it cooler and most importantly, easier to sense for the force sensitives, imagine that those artificial ecosystem are made to be inhabited by different creatures that can't stay on their planet of origin (like. maybe because the environment changed and they are endangered, or they're too dangerous so they like. put them there). so they're full of life. they'd be like lit candles in the dark, literally.
THIS CAME TO ME BECAUSE TWO WEEKS AGO I SAW SUCH A COOL VIDEO (a 12 hour analysis of the phantom menace that's like. so fucking well-researched??? considering its length it's impressive really, so here's the link) that spoke (at 1:19:22) about that Boss Nass's phrase about going through Naboo's planet core. But to synthetize: basically in the lore, Naboo is supposed to lack a molten core, and at the center of the planet, plasma is being emitted, and it creates infinite tunnels that can connect even theed and otho gunga. but besides other worldbuilding problems that this rather absurd idea would create - that i won't recap here - in the video, there are some ideas on how to make it make sense (like. "going through the planet core" is simply a figure of speech and not what actually happened), BUT between those, there is one in particular that struck me: at 1:30:40, he proposed Naboo could be a constructed planet - like a planet-aquarium.
then, the video explains why it can't be the case for naboo but. GUYS!! if there's a species that could pull off something like that it's the chiss, with their sense of order, their need for knowledge, and organization abilities.
the maintenance of these stations with particular ecosystems could then be left at the nearest colony of csilla (kinda like the romans delegated the maintenance of their streets to each town it crossed and benefitted off of it), and be used as a "lighthouse" for new sky-walkers to train their third sight. researchers would benefit from keeping these animals alive + they could be kept in various different scenarios depending on how the specific station is made. if it's big enough, those creatures wouldn't be even captive, in a certain sense. especially since these stations need to be big enough (and full of life) to be perceived by the force sensitives, they'd just become replicas of the planet, where researchers, even in the creation of such stations, can really have a boost on their understanding of those ecosystems, through the feedbacks and experiments on the stations.
i have made a few sketches to visualize the idea
Tumblr media
(ugly quality and poor rendition ops. in my defense it was late)
i know i wrote A LOT and prob not many will read this BUT if you've come this far, what do you think?

“Enlist today!”
Thrawn and Eli at Royal Imperial inspired by those weirdly homoerotic soviet propaganda posters.
Graphic design is NOT my passion so all of the aurebesh is crooked 😭
Aurebesh Translations:
Book/plaque: Loyalty. Stability. (like its what they’re “uplifting” or promoting or whatever)
Top right corner: “Enlist Today!”
Bottom left: “Royal Imperial; security in strength, order in obedience, stand together in unity for the Empire!”

Reasons why it’s probably for the best that Eli Vanto doesn’t show up in the Ahsoka show
Thrawn is the antagonist so Eli will likely also be a bad guy
If Eli isn’t a bad guy then he’ll probably be on an opposing side to Thrawn which defeats the whole “Thrawn and Eli are besties” thing
Thrawn already has Pellaeon as a side kick, not to mention Morgan Elsbeth and the new character that got teased as Thrawn’s “right hand man”, so having Eli as a third or fourth mentee may get redundant
I can almost guarantee that if Eli shows up there will be little to no explanation of what he’s been doing and why he’s back now
Thranto is never going to happen in canon even if he does show up so it’s just one less thing for stans to be bitter about
There is an 80% chance he will be whitewashed if he shows up
Eli showing up now severely limits the options that Tim Zahn has for him if he gets to write more books after the storyline Filoni is working on is finished

And if I say that both Anakin and Thrawn suffered the same childhood trauma and it manifests in completely different ways that makes their dynamic very interesting, what then? The loss of a family member and how they reacted to it is crucial in their characters. It is the loss of Shmi that turns Anakin’s love into a possessive, obsessive, abandonment fearing mess. It is the loss of Vurika/Borika, that informs Thrawn’s view of himself and others as just assets to a larger cause.
Regardless if Anakin could or couldn’t have saved his mother if the council listened, Shmi’s death in his mind is framed as an event in that Anakin was too late, he wasn’t there. It is a loss that turns into this idea that if he doesn’t protect what he loves, someone or something will take it from him. We see this in the Rush Clovis arc, we see it in the way he immediately jumps to jealousy at Obi Wan in ROTS despite Obi Wan never having such a relation with Padme. For Anakin, loss is always framed as someone took something from me. Even platonically, we see this in the Rako Hardeen arc. And it is evident that this started after Shmi’s death because Anakin does not have the same sort of hatred for Maul who killed Quigon.
For Anakin, it will always be that someone took something from me, so I have to do something about that. And it’s why Palpatine can manipulate him so easily, because all Palps has to do is point at someone, give him a target to blame and say kill.
For Thrawn, yes it is slightly different as Borika isn’t dead. But it is a loss nevertheless. Thrawn on the flip side of Anakin, registers loss as something inevitable and thus why harbor deep attachments? Not to say he doesn’t care because we know he does. Thrass, Ar’alani, and Eli all speak to the fact that he does very much care and love. But in every instance, he does keep them at a distance, he pushes them away just as they get close. And it stems from Borika because the reason why he loses her is so she could serve the Ascendancy. It is not a choice she made and he knows this. And that informs why everything he does is for this goal, because all he knows is that everything, even things that caused him pain is supposed to be for this goal.
Where Anakin sought to justify the loss in blaming himself and then others, Thrawn justifies the loss by trying to give the pain purpose. If it meant something then he shouldn’t be upset. It is what it is. Yet, just like how Anakin’s possessiveness leads to his downfall by Palpatine, by pushing all his friends away instead of keeping them close, Thrawn leaves himself vulnerable and surrounded by his enemies instead. All those friends will serve the larger goal, the Ascendancy, but who is left looking to him?
Idk what I’m really trying to say other than yeah that’s some interesting character dynamics. The idea that both these characters are defined by loss as much as they are also defined by hope as their shining moments of good.

You know what (breaking my silence on tales of the empire) I'm not bothered by the idea of Morgan Elsbeth coming up with the TIE Defenders, god forbid women do anything etc, I'm more annoyed at the implication that thrawn would just not credit her for that, because that would be EXTREMELY out of character for a guy who is known to rely on a posse of underdog women
